Steeling Myself for the Million and a Half Questions Over the Next Few Months

Well, I think Brett will like his room

Looks like Lili will like hers too

I'm thinking mom and dad will like theirs, since (unfortunately for the kids) it seems an impenetrable fortress :)

Run free and frolic, kids. We have a basement!

Poor Lili, looks like the excitement was too much for her. She fell asleep at the store as we were buying TONS of stuff for a house that hasn't even been built yet.
So, to explain, we took the kids to a model home of the house that we're going to build. We really didn't want to even take Lili, but she seemed to kind of know what was going on (for today, anyway). We did have to explain that this really wasn't our house, but it's just like the one that hasn't even been built yet on the vacant lot that we also took them to see. :O
A lot to wrap their minds around, I know.
It was very nice to explore the house, thinking of furniture placement, measuring windows, etc. Really hated to leave, actually.
It was nice to see us all in there, knowing how things are going to sound and how it's all going to be laid out.
Heck, our kids even got sent to their rooms already in a house that doesn't even exist :)

My Butt is Kicked

We're STILL moving. Can you believe it?
Jeff and I have spent the better part of each day since Saturday moving crap we don't need into the largest storage shed known to mankind.
And we're still not done.
We need to be out of our house by Thursday. As in 'the day after tomorrow, Thursday'. I know we'll make it, but it might just very possibly kill us (which, in hindsight, would make our senseless need to accumulate crap pretty foolish, huh?)
We are, however, residing full time at the parents' house.
Things are going well. We finally pried the cats out from under the TV, Lola finally stopped giving them the stink eye for having to share Meemaw and Peepaw's house with them and all us humans are settling in.
It should work out well. temporarily. I have to keep reminding myself it's temporary.
Sometimes I catch myself thinking that this is the rest of my life. I have to remind myself that we WILL have our own house again. soon.
They are going to start excavating our foundation next Thursday. That's exciting. Exciting in a surreal way.
We did find a model home that's similar to ours. We'd like to take Brett to see it this weekend. Kind of get him involved in the planning stages. NOT Lili though. Don't quite think she could grasp it. Poor kid, life is just one surprise after another for her :)
OK, gotta get back to work.

I Don't Ever Want to Do This Again!

We have started to move.
Jeff's plan is for us to be out of our house on Sunday.
At least able to move in with my parents, if we don't get everything out by then, we'll still have 3 days to clean the house out.
We met with our builders today and they showed us the CAD drawing of our house.
Really cool.
All the little outlets........at least one on EVERY wall. Every girl's dream. ahhh...
They told us that they are going to start digging our foundation on March 5th! woo hoo!
(cross your fingers for no floods, tornadoes, blizzards, hurricanes, earthquakes---hey, we are in Indiana)
They're saying 90 days to completion, we'll see. We're planning on 120 days (but really, really hoping they're right!)
So, that's that. Things are moving along, including us.
I can't believe it. I think I'm going to barf.

Welp, That's It

We OFFICIALLY sold our house today at 4:15pm.
We now have less than 10 days to get out.
Gulp.
We're going this week to put our earnest money down on our new house.
Our sales guy called tonight to let us know they're doing the CAD drawing of our house.
Wee!

MY Husband Bought Me a House for Valentine's Day ;)

Lili and Brett had their Valentine's Party at school yesterday (see all the loot on the floor?)
It's like "Halloween: Part II", unreal.
If you notice the first picture, Lili is standing in front of our headboard, which is in the dining room, which is now 'the room where we're putting all our stuff for the move'.
Gracious, I don't know HOW we're going to be out of here in a little more than 10 days!
So, yes, Jeff and I officially bought our new house today. I think. We still haven't given them every last dime, but we made all our final decisions at the Design Studio today, gave them a deposit and pretty much sewed up all the technicalities.
We'll be giving them our earnest money next week, as soon as we close on this house.
Oh my, we've got so much going on right now.
So much excitement, stress and sadness.
Please say a little prayer for our sanity :/

18 Month Liliana-versary!

I can't believe it's ONLY been 18 months. seriously.

Lili's always been here, hasn't she?

It seems like so long ago that we were in China. So long ago that Lili couldn't speak English.

Amazing.

18 months ago, we were ALL a little afraid of each other. Can't even imagine that now.
Lili has wormed her way into our hearts and life and we can't imagine how we even were before she came home.

(probably lots less singing, dancing and Barbie dolls...) :)

Look What We've Reduced Ourselves To

Yep. We sold our dining room set.
We just didn't want to move it all and we got a really good price for it.
We also sold our couch and bed, among other things, so shortly we'll have no place to watch TV or sleep either....

Plans

First Floor

Second Floor

Basement

The top 10 things that we're so very excited about that might make us dweebs because most people have them anyway:
  1. Open concept-I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to do the dishes AND watch TV!!
  2. Full finished basement-video games and football. A place (far, far away) for a bunch of 11 year old boys....'nough said.
  3. 2 car garage-Jeff and I have NEVER, EVER had a garage at all. I can't even fathom not having to scrape my car in the morning :)
  4. Walk-in closet-should be just about enough room. for me.
  5. Laundry room-right now I'm working out of a closet in the kitchen.
  6. Garbage disposal-never, ever had one of those...are they cool?
  7. Kitchen pantry-Hallelujah! I LOVE to bulk buy!
  8. MASTER BATH/MASTER SUITE- NO MORE sharing the bathroom with 2 kids!!!!!!
  9. As many outlets as I want wherever I want them!!!!!! If you knew our house now, you'd know why this really could be #1, We're extension corded to the max here.
  10. EVERY SINGLE STINKING THING IS N-E-W!! I could cry thinking about it. Jeff will not have to spend every weekend and holiday installing anything!! No new furnace, plumbing, roof, siding, gutters, not even a freaking lightbulb.......I'm speechless.

Sign here......and here.......and here........

We just found out the date of our closing:
January 16th, which means we need to be OUT of our house on January 26th.
breathe......breathe......

Only 3 more weeks.
3 more weekends.
20 more times my children will wake up and go to sleep in their rooms.
20 more showers.
20 more breakfasts, lunches and dinners prepared in my kitchen with my appliances.

gulp.

Kind of sad (terrifying) when you think of it that way.
sigh...

I know I'm going to be sad at leaving.
How I'm going to shut the door and walk out of that house for the final time, I just don't know.
I know it won't be easy for any of us.

But! Onward and upward.

This Saturday Jeff and I are going to our homebuilder's 'Design Studio'. ooh la la.
We will be picking out our flooring, cabinets, wall colors, basically anything and everything you can imagine down to the doorknobs for our BRAND NEW home. And we have a builder's allowance towards it all, so it's almost like spending someone else's money :)
I've never seemed to have a problem with that. ;)

I REALLY Need to Get a New Hobby

We've just started the process of packing the non-essentials.
We have over 20 BOXES of just books :O
And we don't even have time to read.
argh.

Are you ready for some football?

Did you guys get to see the 3D commercials at the end of the 2nd quarter?

Kinda upset that the Cards didn't pull off an upset, but they sure did make it interesting. That had to be one of the best games in SuperBowl history. Exciting stuff.
